ITANAGAR, Apr 25: BJP candidate for 8- Bameng Assembly Constituency, Goruk Pordung has rubbished the claim of his rival NPP candidate Kumar Waii, who alleged that BJP workers had attempted to murder him.
Addressing a press conference here today, Pordung clarified that although  an attempt was made on Waii, it was neither he nor his supporters who did it. Refuting all allegations, Pordung in turn accused Waii of instigating violence, booth capturing and hooliganism in a desperate attempt to win the election.
Also raising the demand for re-poll in the (30)Rawa polling station,  while citing a complainet letter to CEO he recalled a few unconfirmed incidents wherein Waii openly threatened villagers of  Rawa to kill them if they come to the polling booth for voting. It is pertinent to mention that Rawa village is inhabited mostly by the Puroik community.
Citing another case, the BJP candidate informed that his two polling agents had to hide in the forests for two nights after Waii intimidated to kill them if they turn up at the polling booth. He also alleged that  Waii's supporters haven't even spared the polling officers and threatened them of dire consequences if they didn't cooperate with them in booth capturing.
“The voters including my workers are being threatened by NPP workers at the behest of the former minister, Kumar Waii. The genuine voters were debarred from exercising their franchises and dead people's votes were illegally cast,” he alleged.
The complaint letter further reads that the fraud has gone to such an exorbitant level that villagers were asked to put thumb impression on the register while  Waii who was inside the polling station along with his close associate, Karling Waii cast the votes on their behalf .

Elaborating the  booth capturing  episode, he  alleged that out of the  total 243 votes at 30 Rawa polling station, Kumar Waii and Kaling Waii  together  cast a total of 236 votes, making the breakup as 232 in favour of NPP and 3-4 votes in the favour of BJP, thus  taking the voting  percentage to  a whopping 97.2 per cent.

Justifying his claims, Pordung claimed that not a single voter was inked by the polling official and the villagers are ready to testify that they were never allowed to cast their votes.
“The people of Rawa village were subjugated as slaves since time immemorial. If such booth capturing is not prevented then the freedom accorded by the government to them would serve no meaning and it’s a murder of democracy,” Pordung added.
He also sought the intervention of  CEO  office and arrangement of re-poll to save democracy and the democratic rights of the Puroik community.
