Khonsa, Sep 22: As a part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ campaign, a massive plastic waste free cleanliness drive was organized today by the Khonsa Bazar Welfare Committee (KBWC) in collaboration with District Urban Development Agency (DUDA), Tirap district.
The drive carried the theme “No to Plastic-Yes to Sustainable Development” and businessmen/shopkeepers, public from Khonsa township along with public leader Ngampey Lamaty actively participated. While administering the pledge on the occasion, Brand Ambassador SBM Khonsa town-cum-KBWC President Jiten Wangchha appealed all to keep the surroundings clean, avoid burning plastic waste and throwing them in water nallahs etc. He assured that KBWC would extend full cooperation to the District Administration, District Tobacco Control Cell and District Police in the efforts towards banning plastic polythene, selling of tobacco products and intoxicating substances within a radius of 100 metres from educational institutions.
KBWC Secretary Lopong Wanghop appreciated DUDA for providing dustbins for Khonsa Market area and informed that a similar programme would be conducted by them on October 2 next. All the plastic waste and garbage collected during the cleanliness drive was handed over to the Urban Department for further disposing and recycling. DIPRO
