Tawang, Apr 24: To upscale the Covid-19 combat efforts in Tawang district and mitigate the hardships of the needy due to the ongoing lockdown, various NGOs, individuals, organizations and bazar secretaries have engaged themselves in rendering selfless services.
These include providing door to door essential services without charges, free mask, sanitizer distribution etc to the needy and cash contributions to the District Administration. Padmashree awardee founding director of Manjushree Orphanage, Lama Thupten Phuntsok on Friday handed over a cheque of Rs. 1 lakh in addition to two cheques of Rs. 2 lakh each for CMRF and PM Care Fund and President Tendon Cultural Preservation Society Lama Ngawang Norbu gave a cheque of Rs. 15000 thousand along with two cheques of Rs. 30000 each towards the above funds. Earlier, on April 16 the monks of Tawang monastery also contributed Rs. 1.5 lakh each for the CMRF and PM Care Fund.
The donations meant for the Tawang DA were politely declined on grounds that handling of such donations will not be appropriate by them and more so when the state government is providing sufficient fund for the Covid-19 cause. In lieu, it was suggested by DC Tawang Sang Phuntsok that they can use the amounts either by directly helping the needy or through any other NGOs/organizations.
Accepting the proposals, the contributors donated the amounts to the Tawang Monpa Employees’ Society (TMES) and handed over the cheques to ADC Lobsang Tsering who is also the Chairman of TMES. Tsering later handed over sanitizers and masks to the Tawang Monastery, Manjushree and members of Tendon Society.
Earlier, Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi and  Lungla MLA Jambey Tashi offered their two-month salaries to the DA, but it was suggested that it would be better if they donate the same to CMRF and PM Care Fund, which they complied.
Tawang DA has thanked the contributors for their generosity and all the frontline workers for rendering selfless services to the people of the district during the current difficult times. DIPRO
