ITANAGAR, Mar 28: In a major humanitarian gesture, NHPC Limited arranged the airlifting of 2.6 metric tonnes of medical material for the Government of Manipur from New Delhi to Imphal on Saturday to battle the Covid-19 pandemic.
It’s Chairman and Managing Director, A.K Singh said: “NHPC is fully committed to stand with the nation in this moment of crisis and has already earmarked Rs 4.5 crore to fight the pandemic. Timely supply of medical material is most crucial and therefore we have aided the airlifting to Imphal which is remotely located and difficult to reach by road.” On receipt of request from the Manipur government, NHPC has arranged airlifting of the cargo which consists of sanitizers, thermal scanners, masks etc.
Land-locked Manipur has a difficult terrain and sending medical material by flight would save crucial time in fighting the Covid-19 crisis. NHPC’s 105 Mega Watt Loktak Power Station, meanwhile, is generating uninterrupted power to help the state tide over the crisis period. NHPC PR
