ITANAGAR, Aug 28: NABARD’s Arunachal Pradesh Regional Office today organized a State Level Workshop on Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS) and National Livestock Mission (NLM) here under the chairmanship of its General Manager/Officer-in-Charge Dr. Gopa Kumaran Nair G.
High level officers from State Level Bankers Committee, Directorate of Agriculture, GoAP, State Cooperative Apex Bank, Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Papum Pare, major banks and other line departments participated in the meeting. Nair while elaborating the objectives of the meeting, informed about DEDS launched by Government of India which aims to augment income of farmers and modernise the dairy sector. Under the scheme, credit linked subsidy up to 33.33% is provided to entrepreneurs for establishment of dairy units. In this regard, NABARD GM urged bankers to provide loan to potential entrepreneurs for establishment of dairy units and follow the laid out procedures to claim subsidy online, since ground level situation such as availability of land and water, higher prices for produce, infrastructure etc. are conducive for establishment of dairy units in Arunachal Pradesh.
A detailed presentation containing the salient features of DEDS was made by Manager Baidya Nath Singh along with sharing of detailed procedures for lodging subsidy claim on online portal. Assistant General Manager, NABARD Reji Varghese elaborated the salient features of National Livestock Mission and informed that as pig rearing is a common activity amongst rural populace of the state along with a huge demand for pork meat, commercial rearing of piggery in a cluster mode under NLM is viable where subsidy of up to 50% is admissible for NER States.
It was also informed that to assess dairy potential in Arunachal Pradesh, a collaborative study was conducted in the three districts of Papum Pare, Lohit & East Siang jointly by NABARD & Krishi Vigyan Kendra.  Gist of study observations were shared by Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Papum Pare Dr. Bangkeng Perme. Lead District Manager, Papum Pare district S Ranjith Singh shared his views and urged the bankers to help the state’s entrepreneurs in establishment of dairy and piggery units.
