NAHARLAGUN, Jul 18: Bank of Baroda (BoB), after public sector Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank consolidated with it, celebrated its 112nd foundation day with the inmates of Oju Welfare Association here on Thursday.
Ganga BoB branch manager Lamter Loi said that it is the principle of his bank to devote a day with charitable organisation or underprivileged sections to learn from their sufferings and aspirations under its Baroda Anubhuti scheme to learn to help those sections of society.
Saluting OWA, particularly its chairperson Anya Ratan for serving the helpless selflessly with dedication, he said his bank will gift emergency lights for the inmates the way the BoB had celebrated this day in 2017.
BOB chief managers Jishu Das (Itanagar) and MM Bhuyan (Naharlagun) showered praises on OWA for sheltering the homeless and giving life to oppressed and exploited sections of society and spreading its wings to serve in other parts of the state. They assured to extend whatever help possible by the bank followed by the senior bankers handing over their gifts to the inmates.
Earlier, Ratan highlighting activities said that OWA was established in 1979 and registered as voluntary organisation in 1988 by Binny Maya Yanga, who was called by the inmates as amma for her care and unflinching love for them. She was conferred numerous national awards for her humanitarian services including prestigious Durgabai Deshmukh Award in 2000 and Padamshree in 2012, she said.
Its multifarious services are Swadha Griha to nourish the destitute and orphan children, children home or children care institution for children in the age group of 7 to 18, Oju Mission School having 157 enrolment from LKG to class-X and state’s lone a Sishu Greha, a Specialized Adoption Agency, registered with the Central Adoption Resource Agency (CARA) which accepts children from mostly teenage mothers or parents who can’t afford to raise their children, she informed.
Though Vijaya Bank was first to open its branch at Itanagar in 16.10.1978, but it consolidated with the BoB with its headquarters at Vadodara on 01.04.19 because of its global presence in 22 countries. However, with the amalgamation, BOB now has 9,548 branches, second largest bank in India after State Bank of India, the bankers said. Newsdesk
