BANDERDAWA, Apr 19: The people of Banderdewa area on Sunday held a silent peaceful protest here at the main entry gate demanding a complete ban on trade and transport of all varieties of fish and meat items from the red zone areas of Assam into the state capital
They demanded a complete prohibition of import of fish and meat from the Covid-19 hotspot districts in Assam such as Lakhimpur, Hailakandi, Kamrup, etc as a precautionary measure.
“Banderdewa being the gateway to the state capital and located on the inter-state boundary has become more vulnerable so far as further transmission of the virus is concerned. It is imperative to take stringent precautionary measures to contain any possible outbreak,” opined the GS, All Arunachal Pradesh Gaon Burah Association, Tachi Lombi.
"State Government should beef up surveillance especially in porous border areas during midnight hours and not let any inward and outward movement of suspicious persons including vehicles ferrying fish and meat items,” he suggested.
A protester asserted that while the security personnel deployed at the gate properly checks movement of people during daytime, at night, outsiders illegally sneak into Arunachal territory and appealed the DA to double the security strength at the two main entry points in view of the rising cases of coronavirus in neighbouring the states.
Another protester requested the DA to ensure supply of essential commodities such as fresh vegetables as ser laid down protocols but stop import of fish and meat from these red zone areas.
SDPO, Naharlagun Riki Kamsi who was present on the spot said police are on a high alert and doing their best to keep the denizens safe. "We have sealed all entry points and people are allowed to enter only after getting screened by a medical team deputed at the gate," the officer remarked.
Kamsi said that all vehicles are also properly sanitized before entering and leaving the checkgates and a mega vehicle disinfection gate is also under construction right under the check gate structure which would be made functional soon.
