NEW DELHI, Jun 30: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) etc. Dr. Jitendra Singh while chairing a review meeting through a video conference with the senior officers from the Ministry of DoNER and the North Eastern Council (NEC) on Tuesday opined that bamboo sector will propel the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan in the North Eastern Region and is going to be an important vehicle of trade not only for India but also for the entire subcontinent. 
The Minister while deliberating on the importance of bamboo in India's post-Covid economy said that central government is keen to promote this sector, also drawing attention to the fact that all bamboo-related activities like planting, process etc. were allowed even during the lockdown. Expressing satisfaction over the fact that MDoNER has achieved 100% work output even during the current pandemic, the Minister also congratulated the Team MDoNER for achieving 100% expenditure during 2019-20 and appreciated the efforts of the Ministry in helping the North Eastern states in developing Covid combat infrastructure and playing a coordinating role between the region’s states and various Central ministries/departments.
Emphasizing the importance of seamless internet facility for overall development of the region especially during the current crisis when most of the activities are being carried out through online mode, Dr. Singh urged the officers to coordinate with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to augment uninterrupted high-speed net facility in the entire region. He was also apprised of the role played by the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi) in promoting start-ups in the region in a very innovative manner for promoting local talents.  
The DoNER Minister also interacted with the Director General, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Lt. General Harpal Singh and other senior officials and addressed their concerns pertaining to the region.
Secretary, Ministry of DoNER Dr. Inderjit Singh, Special Secretary Indevar Pandey, Secretary, NEC Moses K Chalai and other senior officers of the Department attended the meeting conducted through a  virtual mode. PIB Delhi
