ITANAGAR, Nov 18: The Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs in collaboration with Bureau of Indian Standards, regional office, Guwahati organized a one-day awareness programme on standardization of products related to BIS at Naharlagun on Friday last. Representatives from various stakeholders of government and private agencies including Legal Metrology officers from district and headquarters office participated in the awareness programme. Attending the programme as the representative of BIS, Amit Roy, Director highlighted on importance of product standardization with reference to Indian standards like ISI, ISO and Hallmark through power point presentation. Many doubts put forward by the participants relating to enforcement of the provisions of BIS Act was clarified by him. Hoktum Ori, Controller, Legal Metrology & CA, Daro Marbom, DCLM, Rheli Kato, EE RWD and Tojir Kadu, Dy Director, F& CS also spoke in the programme.
Later after completion of the programme, a separate awareness programme was also arranged for the Jewellers of Capital Complex Itanagar and Naharlagun. The Director, BIS insisted for early registration under Hallmark scheme as it is mandatory under the provisions of BIS Act, 2016.
