ITANAGAR, Nov 28: The Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs, Naharlagun conducted an awareness programme on Consumer Protection at Gyan Ganga Vidyapeet, Naharlagun in which all the students and teachers of the school took part.
Assistant Controller KP Tago, while demonstrating on likely fraudulent practices in weighing instruments, asked the participants to be careful and alert at the time of transaction so that accurate quantity for payment made is delivered. Giving demo on food colouring, he also advised consumers to be careful while buying edible items from market to remain safe from sub-standard quality.
Gamkhong Singpho, Inspector Legal Metrology briefed about ‘how to know’ about accuracy of weights and measures used in commercial transaction by the traders and asked the consumers to accept verified weights and measures only. He further briefed on packaged commodities and the mandatory information as required under the law with special reference to MRP, expiry date etc. He further suggested consumers to make a habit of reading the mandatory information before buying products. He also gave various tips of do’s and don’ts in getting delivery of petrol.
Liklang keisam, TSP and Sangio Toru also briefed on product standardization and product imitation respectively.
Earlier, a similar programme was also conducted at Govt. H. S. School, Polo Colony, Naharlagun in which Department officers including Debia Tana, Inspector Legal Metrology, Papum Pare District and G. Singpho Inspector Legal Metrology, Itanagar took part as the resource person.
