PASIGHAT, Feb 8: A one day awareness camp was organised on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (PWDV Act 2005) and Sexual harassment at the work place by the department of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) East Siang district unit at Debing village under Ruksin Sub-Division on Thursday.
Besides the 15 participants from the village consisting of members of the women Self Help Groups in the village other village heads and field functionaries of the ICDS attended the programme.
Dy. Director, ICDS East Siang, Ponung Ering Angu, gave a short overview of the PWDV Act 2005 and the responsibilities of each member in the family and society in dealing with victims of domestic violence and the laws pertaining to sexual harassment of women in work places. She also spoke on the government services and packages available for women in the country like PMMVY, JSY etc and exhorted the women to take advantage of them.
The technical class on the PWDV Act 2005 was conducted by advocate Borik Tarang, one of a Child Protection Officer on the key features of the Act and the roles and responsibilities of the VOs/NGOs and service providers under the Act. While Counsellor Duman Moyong also spoke on the effects of domestic violence on the women and children and how the family and society could tackle this global problem.
In the second half session, a class on issues on the sexual harassment at the work place and the sexual harassment of women at workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 was discussed in detail by advocate Mary Tatak, Centre Administrator of One Stop Centre, Pasighat who also touched upon the services offered by the One Stop Centre in the district.
