PASIGHAT, Feb 24:

 

A mass awareness programme on Biodiversity conservation was held at Doying Kumdang Hall, Mebo Sub-Divisional HQ, Romdum today being organized by Adi Students’ Union in collaboration with Adi Baane Kebang, Mebo Block sponsored by Divisional Forest Office, Pasighat funded under State CAMPA.

 

The daylong programme was Chaired by Bodong Yirang, Secretary General, Adi Baane Kebang cum Chief Patron, 39 Mebo Intellectual Forum(39MIF) which was attended by Yemling Tayeng, Addl. Dy. Commissioner, Mebo, Tajom Mibang, ACF among others.

 

 

Oling Ratan, President, ABK Mebo Block presented keynote address and presented his poem written on role of human beings and its impact on biodiversity conservation in Adi titled “Takam si tani ke imem lok idung”.

 

 

Obang Tayeng, Range Officer, Mebo RF and Osar Gao, Range Officer (HQ) spoke on afforestation and biodiversity conservation respectively while presenting through Powerpoint presentation. While State Wildlife Board member, Maksam Tayeng, this reporter presented a powerpoint presentation and also spoke on wildlife protection, man-animal conflict and need of adequate compensation to farmers for crop raids and attacks on human to stop counter killing of animals.

 

Senior public leaders also spoke on urgent need of banning illegal hunting, river poisoning, dynamite fishing and electrocution fishing.

 

ADC Mebo, Yemling Tayeng appealed the general public for wanton destruction of forest and wildlife which is indirectly causing harm to humans. After observation of Chairman’s remark a strong resolution was adopted to stop illegal hunting and fishing by use of dynamite, chemical, inverter, generator, air gun etc.

 

In a separate message, DFO (T), Tabang Jamoh has appealed the people to plant more trees with the theme “each one plant one”. Jamoh has also urged Headmasters and Head teachers of every school of East Siang district to plant at least 10 tree saplings in every school. He has also appealed all the HoDs of various government departments to plant tree saplings in their vacant compounds and all the saplings will be provided by the Divisional Forest Office, Pasighat.
