ITANAGAR, May 26: The Chief Electoral Officer of the state Kaling Tayeng called on the Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) here at Raj Bhavan today and submitted a copy of the notification issued by Election Commission of India as per provisions of Section 73 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, containing the names of members who have been elected to the 7th Arunachal Pradesh State Legislative Assembly.
The CEO was accompanied by Additional Chief Electoral Officer Kanki Darang, and ASOs Ankit Gupta and Birendra Kumar representing the ECI. The Governor on behalf of people of the state, commended the efforts of the State Electoral Office, its officials & staff and all those who were involved in management and superintendence of the campaign and polling schedules. He also thanked the state police and central security personnel for working tirelessly & diligently and ensuring a free and fair election.
The Governor also praised the voters of the state who participated in the election process in large numbers, braving difficult terrain and inclement weather conditions.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan today and tendered his resignation along with the Council of Ministers.
The Governor has accepted the resignation and requested Khandu and the Council of Ministers to continue till the new Government is sworn in.
Under the provisions of Article 174 (2) (b) of the Constitution of India, the Governor also has accepted the advice of the Cabinet and signed the Order dissolving the Sixth State Assembly with immediate effect.
