ITANAGAR, Jun 16: The group of youths numbering 15 who volunteered the Arunachal Pradesh State Legislative Assembly Covid-19 Control Room for the last two months were felicitated by State Assembly Speaker Pasang D Sona and Deputy Speaker Tesam Pongte on Tuesday here at the Assembly Secretariat.
Lauding the volunteers, the Speaker said: “You have redefined the true meaning of a volunteer by selflessly working for the needy people under tremendous pressure during the lockdown. Your services will not go unnoticed and I appreciate your services from the core of my heart.” Citing an example of how the APLA Covid-19 Control Room volunteers helped two differently abled students to return home safely from Meghalaya, Speaker appreciated the volunteers for going that extra mile to help the needy. Stating that the fight against the pandemic is not over, he called upon the youths to spread awareness among people to strictly follow the SOPs and government guidelines.
Deputy Speaker also appreciated the volunteers for dedicatedly running the control room and helping out the stranded people during lockdown. “The services rendered by the volunteers are immense and noble,” he said, reiterating the need for more mass awareness.
Secretary APLA Kago Habung and Nodal Officer PN Thongchi also spoke on the occasion and thanked the volunteers who came from various professional backgrounds. The volunteers also shared their experiences and thoughts.
It can be recalled that the control room was set up at the Assembly Secretariat as suggested by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla during the video conference with all the Presiding Officers of State Assemblies on April 21 last to help out the stranded people across the country amid the nationwide lockdown. Accordingly, under Speaker’s direction, the control room was set up at the Assembly Secretariat
The volunteers under the supervision of the Nodal Officer, Joint Secretary Agaab Mossang and Under Secretary L Rongrang coordinated with the Central Covid Control Room at the Lok Sabha Secretariat and also with other State Assemblies for exchange of information and solving the problems of the stranded people.
