Roing, Jan 29: Union Minister of State, Sports & Youth Affairs Kiren Rijiju today after inaugurating the long pending Youth Hostel at Azengo has expressed confidence that after inclusion of the Centre of Excellence at Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy will ensure added facilities to groom state’s young talents under top coaches. It will be easier for Arunachal to hunt its next Olympian, he said.
Rijiju while speaking about the proposed Centre of Excellence which will have superior training facilities for nurturing the state’s hidden talents in martial arts, weightlifting and boxing, appealed youths to embrace sports. “We proudly say that Arunachal has been shining well in games & sports which was proved in the recently concluded Khelo India Youth Games 2020 in Guwahati where the state bagged 12 medals including 3 gold,” he said, adding that Centre along with GoAP will work to fund the project under the ‘Khelo India’ scheme.
While reiterating that central government will extend all support to the state in grooming sporting talents, he urged the District Administration, Olympic Association District Unit and Sports & Youth Affairs Department to ensure better upkeep of the asset. State’s Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs Mama Natung also promised to sanction Rs 1 crore for further development of infrastructure. Though the state has huge sports talents, they have not excelled in the national circuit for want of facilities, he said and assured adequate facilities for a strong foundation to hone the indigenous skills from grassroots level. “The talents and potential of youths being living assets, should be streamlined,” he opined. Extending gratitude to both the Union MoS and the state’s Sports Minister, Roing MLA Mutchu Mithi expressed satisfaction over the government support being received to bring development in Lower Dibang Valley district.
