ITANAGAR, Jan 9: Arunachal won two Bronze medals on the opening day of the 1st Khelo India Youth Games underway at Pune, Maharashtra.
In the morning session state’s budding lifting star, Sandiya Gungli won the Bronze in the girls 40 kg weight category under-17 age group. Her Bronze was the first medal for Arunachal Pradesh in particular and North East region in general in weightlifting event on day one.
Prior to this achievement, she won Bronze medal at 14th Youth National Weightlifting Championship held at Nagpur in December last.
Khelo India Youth Games is the second biggest game being played in the national level after National Games. 
Bettering her previous performances by 3 kg, she lifted snatch 41 kg, clean & Jerk 54 kg and a total of 95 kg. 
The second Bronze medal was won by wildcard entry, Golom Tinku in the 55 kg category. Although Tinku won the Bronze, the entire technical officials of Khelo India particularly Secretary General of Indian Weightlifting Federation was very much impressed at his superb performance as he is the youngest among all the competitors of U-17 age group.
Only 12 years and 8 months, his medal came from the lifting of 89kg in Snatch, 112 kg in Clean & Jerk and a Total of 201 kg. 
Meanwhile, another medal prospect, weightlifter Tami Tame couldn’t continue participation in 49 kg category under-17 due to injuries. Tami had won Silver medal at the 14th  Youth National Weightlifting Championship held last month at Nagpur. 
Chera Tania also couldn’t continue due to injury during snatch event in 49 kg category.
