ITANAGAR, Mar 22: In view of the increasing cases of Covid-19 in the country, the state government today declared a lockdown aimed at ensuring a “Complete Safety Restriction.”
The lockdown will come into effect from 5 pm of March 23 and will remain in force till the midnight of March 31. However, it has been categorically clarified that it will not affect the daily essential commodities. 
In an emergency press briefing convened late evening, Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar announced the decision taken by the state government, informing that after proper discussions and suggestions from all the concerned officials the decision has been taken. “Recently, the Chief Minister also had a video conference with the Prime Minister where they discussed all possible measures to restrict the spread of Covid-19,” CS added. 
Despite today’s ‘Janata Curfew’ there are reports that the number of cases in the country have increased, which has compelled the state government to take the decision, CS added, reiterating that there will be relaxation for those dealing with essential commodities like grocery stores, fuel stations and others.
During the lockdown, no public transport will be permitted and even the inter-state commercial transport shall be closed. However, goods transport vehicles carrying food, essential commodities can run as usual including private vehicles in emergency cases.  Establishments like, banks, ATMs, E-commerce, restaurants (home delivery), general stores, vegetables, fruits, veterinary services and others will be exempted, CS stated.
Chief Secretary further informed that all the contingency staff will be on leave and their salary will not be deducted. “We also request the private establishments to allow leave with salary to their staff,” CS appealed, adding that defaulters will be penalized as per the relevant provisions of law.

Essential commodities not under lockdown, no need for panic purchase: Capital DC

Itanagar, Mar 22: In view of the lockdown announced by the state government, Deputy Commissioner Itanagar Capital Region Komkar Dulom has appealed the denizens not to panic and stay calm.
Asserting that all essential commodities have been kept out of the lockdown, DC informed that transportation of HSD, petrol, LPG, rice, PDS & other grocery items, vegetables, medicines and any other essential item are all outside its purview and as such there is no need for the denizens to resort to panic buying. He has further requested people to avoid mass gatherings of more than 10 persons and stick to the practice of social distancing in containing the spread of coronavirus.
Stressing on the need to stay at homes and venture out only if extremely necessary, DC has appealed the people to cooperate with the administration and stand up unitedly in the fight against the virus to ensure that the Capital Region is shielded from it. DIPRO
