PASIGHAT, Sep 15: Arunachal Pradesh Senior Women’s Football Team created history by qualifying for its maiden quarter finals of Senior Women’s National Football Championship. The host defeated its opponent Telangana 2-0 in their second encounter of Group H played at Kiyit Secondary School ground today.
Techi Akung opened the scoring for Arunachal in the 15th minute and soon doubled the lead for her team in the 26th minute of first half. Second half of the match remained scoreless.
With two wins over Telangana, Arunachal qualified for the quarters from group H with 4-0 aggregate score. They will face the winner of group E in the third quarter final on 20th September.
In other matches played today, Jharkhand and Punjab ended in a 1-1 draw, West Bengal trounced Rajasthan 14-0, Pondicherry versus Kerala ended in 2-1, Gujarat defeated Uttarakhand 2-0 while Manipur defeated Tripura 6-0.
