ITANAGAR, Sep 10: The 2nd Edition of the Arunachal Paragliding Festival will be conducted with the objective of promoting the state as a tourist destination for adventure sports lovers and also for encouraging state’s youths to take up adventure sports as a professional career.
Scheduled to be held either in the month of December this year or February 2020, this edition will be of a larger scale than the previous one with plans to make it an international event by following the rules and regulations of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI), which is the world’s governing body for aero-sports. Technical team for the event has already been constituted with Aldy Patanroi from Indonesia as the Meet Director and other judges namely, Vijay Soni from Pune, Malaina from Mizoram and Arzoon Rai from Sikkim reaching the state capital on September 11 to carry out survey of the paragliding site and assess accommodation facilities for the 100 odd paragliding pilots at Lumdung / Seppa. Other renowned paragliding pilots of India and Nepal will also join the Technical Team and as Judges at later stages.
Blueprint for the event will be chalked out by the Meet Director and Technical Committee after survey of the Paragliding Site at Lumdung in East Kameng district which is 19 kms ahead of the District Headquarters at Seppa. After the visit, proposal will be submitted to Aero Club of India(ACI) seeking approval to conduct Paragliding International Accuracy Championship 2019 under the category FAI-CAT-II. Once approved, the event will then be conducted with technical support from FAI and ACI.
The festival is expected to receive support from the Departments of Tourism and Youth Affairs, GoAP.
