PASIGHAT, Jan 15: Anoko Mega, a youth from Roing under Lower Dibang Valley district who rigorously works on conservation of Mishmi Hills Hoolock Gibbon, a small ape primate species, marked his presence at the stage of Dalmia Cement’s Young Achiever's Award ceremony held at Kolkata last Sunday evening by winning the Young Achiever’s Award in Ecology & Environment category.
Mishmi Hills Hoolock gibbon is a small ape primate species and world’s newest sub-species of Western Hoolock gibbons which are found only in Arunachal’s eastern region in Lower Dibang Valley and Lohit districts. Young Anoko decided to conserve this rare species and spread awareness among locals as well as tourists in a mission by approaching schools and colleges across villages in the districts and educating the children, village people and tourists for its  conservation. Being a crusader of wildlife conservation, he was also the finalists of The Habitats Trust Grant 2019.While talking to this scribe,  Anoko, who is also a member of the State Board for Wildlife, GoAP shared his joy over the recognition and said that he will continue to work more dedicatedly to save the Mishmi Hills Hoolock Gibbon and other wildlife species which are on the verge of extinction due to excessive hunting and poaching in the state.
“It is our privilege to present the Dalmia Cement Young Achiever's Award 2020 in Ecology & Environment to Anoko Mega,” said Ujjwal Batria, the Chief Operating Officer of Dalmia Cement Bharat Ltd. Dalmia Cement is a young brand with many firsts to its credit in the North East region and has instituted the Young Achiever's Award to recognize young achievers from the region from a variety of fields like sports, arts, culture, film making and environment etc, informed Dalmia Cement Bharat Ltd sources. “Dalmia cement wants to promote the youths of North East which itself is a mark of respect towards the region where it operates. Recognizing and felicitating young achievers from this region has been one of the prime focus areas of the brand and it has always been an endeavour to nurture young performers and project them as role models,” added Regional Sales Director, Sunil Agarwal.
Among other achievers awarded were Ningshi Block Hazarika, Assam (Sports), Pritom Chowdhury, Assam (Research & Innovation), Wanphrang Kupar Diengdoh, Meghalaya (Film), Krishnakshi Kashyap, Assam (Art & Cutlure) and Manash Chaliha, Assam (Agriculture).
