ITANAGAR, Jul 3: Arunachal today launched the intensified diarrhoea control fortnight to check child diarrhoeal deaths.

The IDCF drive is a very cost -effective intervention to curb the risk of spread of diarrhoea which scales up during monsoon season. During the fortnight, intensified community awareness campaigns on hygiene and promotion of Oral Rehydration Salt (ORS) and Zinc therapy will be conducted at state, district and village levels.
The ICDF program will continue from July 3 to 15 next at different parts of the state targeting children of ages 0 to 5 years.


At ZIRO,

Along with the rest of the state the IDCF was launched in Lower Subansiri by MLA Er Tage Taki in presence of Deputy Commissioner, Lower Subansiri,  Kemo Lollen in the conference hall of the Gyati Takka General Hospital, Ziro today.

Exhorting all stakeholders to work in good team spirit and ensure success of the program, the MLA also said that National Health flagship programs for community health should be taken in all seriousness and the good intent of the Government of India to provide basic healthcare to the poorest should be implemented in letter and spirit.

He also called for better interaction between the ASHAs and the medical fraternity, to induce a sense of responsibility in them. This would revamp the performance and coverage of the healthcare programs as the ASHAs work at the grass root level, Taki observed.

He also requested the medical department to conduct awareness programs on life threatening issues like high pressure before the festival season of Apatanis  from Murung in January followed by Myoko in March and Dree in July,  to educate the common people on symptoms and immediate measures in case of pressure attacks. He assured to provide all logistic support for such awareness programs.

DC Kemo Lollen called for unified effort from all the stakeholders to make the program a success.

While observing the absence of AIR representatives, he directed all the departments implementing national flagship programs to involve AIR in disseminating information to far flung areas in the local dialects. Awareness for such programs should be a continuous process and schools can be made center of awareness activities, he further added and directed DDSE, to circulate IEC materials, such as handouts to the students.

He also directed DIPRO to issue orders to the Local Cable TV networks to broadcast such welfare programs free of cost.

DMO Dr. Tage Kano in his keynote address dealt in length about the genesis of the community health programs.

At YUPIA,

In an effort to aware people regarding different aspects of prevention and treatment of diarrhoeal diseases, the District Health Society, Papum Pare District on Sunday launched Intensified Diarrhoea Control Programme (IDCF) at Government Upper Primary School, Yupia.

The programme was inaugurated by M. Taipodia, In- Charge Deputy Commissioner in the presence of DMO, Dr Tasso Kampu, DRCHO Dr. J Ado, Headmistress Obi Zirdo Rumi, teaching staffs and students.

Advising students to give more emphasis on cleanliness, Taipodia also exhorted headmistress & all teaching staff to maintain cleanliness in the school premises, especially in student’s common toilets & mid-day meal kitchen areas.

 She said that diarrhoea is mainly caused by unhygienic & uncovered food items and stressed on regular hand washing.

DMO, Dr Tasso Kampu also spoke about the importance of launching of intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) and elaborated the causes of diarrhoea and its infections.

She also advised the students and teaching staff to practice regular 6(Six) steps of hand washing techniques and take Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS) regularly before and during diarrhoea.

Water filters, hand washing soap and ORS were also distributed to the students during the launching programme in the district.

At DAPORIJO, 

The District Health Society, Upper Subansiri District, Daporijo launched the IDCFunder the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner AK Singh.

 DMO, Dr. R Sikom urged the health facility In-charges to dedicate in preventing and containing diarrhoeal deaths and its occurrence in the district by distribution of ORS sachets and Zinc tablets throughout the district for a successful programme implementation.

He urged the concerned to teach hand washing techniques in the villages and schools in their respective jurisdictions. 

The DC advised the participants for a successful implementation of the IDCF 2017 programme and suggested for creating awareness in the respective villages and area through Behavioural Change Communication and Interpersonal Education and Communication in the district as it is the key to successful programme implementation.            

At KHONSA,

 While launching the IDCF, EAC Hakresha Kri, EAC urged the parents of 0 – 5 years children to follow the training imparted by medical staff regarding hygienic way of living and in order to prevent diarrhoea among children.

Speaking on the occasion, DMO Dr. N. Lowang informed that the ICDF is the national program with an aim to attain "zero" child deaths due to diarrhoea by ensuring high coverage of ORS and Zinc use from the age group of 5 months to 5 years. 

Earlier, training on IDCF was also demonstrated and ORS packets distributed to children.
