ITANAGAR, May 16: Former Indian Football team captain, Bhaichung Bhutia emphasized on encouraging youth participation in sports and appealed the Arunachal government to provide them with a solid platform so that they can showcase their talents at higher levels.
“There is lot of football talents in Arunachal Pradesh and if properly groomed they can be selected to represent the country,” said Bhutia while interacting with media during the launching of ‘Sports Station’, a multi-brand and multi-specialty flagship sports store here today.
Stating that there is no dearth of dedication, passion, and skill in footballers of Northeast states, Bhutia highlighted the contribution of players from Manipur, Mizoram, Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim in popularizing the game in this region.
Stressing on the need to encourage youth to take up sports, Bhutia pointed out there is an abundance of talent in the region and proper infrastructure and support can further hone their skills. He felt that Arunachal can also produce many great sports personalities if proper guidance and facilities are provided to the budding talents. He also expressed his desire to open a Bhaichung Bhutia Football School in Arunachal Pradesh if the state government approves his proposal.
Further, Bhutia also appreciated the job reservation policy of the state government for meritorious sportspersons and appealed footballers to set themselves a target of playing in ISL and I-League to improve their quality.
