ITANAGAR,  Mar 18:   The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday suffered a major setback after its General Secretary Arunachal Pradesh, Jarpum Gamlin resigned from the post  and primary membership of the party after his name did not find mention in the list of 54 candidates released by the BJP Parliamentary Board on March 17.
Widely seen as a dynamic leader, Gamlin had been visiting interior parts of the state for months and was a contender for party ticket from 27-Liromoba Assembly Constituency.
‘However as the party has announced the ticket which is not in my  favour, I am in a precarious position torn between the party and my supporters. After much thought, I have decided that I cannot let down the expectations of my supporters who have reposed faith in me. I have decided, therefore, to resign from the primary membership and all other responsibilities of the Bharatiya Janata Party assigned from Itanagar, Guwahati and New Delhi,'said Gamlin in his resignation letter addressed to State BJP President, Tapir Gao.
‘I am grateful for the opportunity to have served in the capacity of State General Secretary BJP which allowed me to traverse the length and breadth of Arunachal Pradesh and interact with people at the grassroots taking along the party's ideology,' the letter further reads.
The BJP on Sunday declared a list of 54 candidates for the 60-member Assembly. Two Cabinet Ministers Kumar Waii and Jarkar Gamlin and nine other MLAs could not find their names in the list, triggering near dissidence in the saffron party.
The party has given ticket to Goruk Pordung, replacing Home Minister Kumar Waii, from Bameng seat while Kento Jini has replaced Tourism Minister Jarkar Gamlin from Along East. (With Inputs)
