ITANAGAR, Dec 5: Arunachal Pradesh was today conferred with the ‘Compliant Buyer-In Payments Award-2019’ by Government eMarketPlace(GeM), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, GoI during the National Public Procurement Conclave held at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre in national capital.
The award was received by Deputy Resident Commissioner Onam Lego & F&AO Resident Commissioner’s Office, New Delhi N.B. Sonar on behalf of the IT Department and Government of Arunachal Pradesh from the Union Minister Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal. GeM is an end-to-end online shopping portal for government departments, PSUs, autonomous bodies etc for procurement of goods & services with the chief aim to bring greater transparency, efficiency and speed in public procurement. It is worth mentioning that implementation of GeM in the state was made mandatory though a cabinet decision after which a MoU was signed the Department of Commerce, GoI on July 11, 2017 and the state’s Department of Information Technology & Communication is the nodal department for its implementation in Arunachal Pradesh. As on date, 50 departments and autonomous bodies under GoAP have enlisted on GeM Portal and public procurements are currently made using it and the office of the Principal Resident Commissioner, New Delhi was the first amongst the offices from state to join it.
Others like the offices of the capital based Deputy Commissioner & Police Headquarter are amongst some of the active departments making procurement through GeM and through this the state has made a huge savings of around 10 crore of which the IT Department alone has saved around 2 crore during last one year. Various goods like IT hardware, equipment, vehicles for GA department & services like consultancy, manpower hiring etc are currently made through GeM. DIPRO
