Pasighat, Feb 21: Driven by the goal to be one of the smartest towns in the state, the century-old town of Pasighat is witnessing a serious makeover with beautification drives undertaken by a young yet renowned artist Karam Gao.
The artist through an open art gallery with vibrant and lively murals and wall paintings has highlighted Pasighat’s rich culture and heritage tellingly. Taking forward his artistic endeavour to beautify Pasighat which started last year, Gao who is a school teacher by profession started making paintings on walls and stones in a chosen area of the township near Renaghat bridge. With the themes like cleanliness and significance of green environment, the murals are a small step towards creating awareness among people residing in nearby localities.
Gao informed that in collaboration with the District Administration, he has painted pictures of animals and women on a large stone and engraved it with “I love you Pasighat” which is fascinating tourists from across the district and also from Assam. Now, “I love you Pasighat” is a top selfie spot of the town with every tourist wishing to take a selfie right here.
While talking to this reporter, Gao informed that although art was his passion since childhood, he never took any formal drawing training. Attracted by his artistic qualities, students from Rajiv Gandhi University pursuing Fine Arts also come to learn from him, he added.
