Namsai, Jan 24: A contingent of six artisans being selected under PM Vishwakarma Scheme from Namsai district was flagged off today by Deputy Commissioner CR Khampa to take participation in Republic Day celebration on 26th January at New Delhi. 
Artisans from all over the country are participating in the Republic Day celebration at New Delhi. They were formally selected and nominated by the Office of the Development Commissioner (MSME), Ministry of MSME, Government of India.
PM Vishwakarma is a newly launched Central Sector Scheme of Ministry of MSME, Government of India. It is being implemented in the State by the Department of Industries, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
It aims to strengthen and nurture the Guru-Shishya Parampara or family-based practice of the traditional skills of artisans and craftspeople working with hands and tools.
It also aims to improve the quality as well as the reach of products and services of artisans and craftspeople by formally integrating them with domestic and global value chains through recognition and registration, skill upgradation, toolkit and digital transaction incentives, and credit, marketing and other institutional supports.
Eighteen traditional trades, including carpentry, blacksmithing, locksmithing, goldsmithing, stone sculpting, cobbling, masonry, basket making, tailoring, etc., are covered under the scheme in the first phase.
Arun Difoe, Assistant Director, Br. MSME, Itanagar and Nondo Doka, ADI, Namsai were also present in the flag off ceremony held today at Namsai.
