PASIGHAT, May 5: The arrest of a gang of miscreants from Roing on Saturday has helped police in cracking the mystery surrounding the extortion and robbery case which took place here at Pasighat in the last week of April.
This was revealed by the Superintendent of Police, Lower Dibang Valley district, Sanjay Kumar Sain who confirmed that it is the same gang that had attempted extortion and robbery at the quarters of Krishna Prashad Jaishi, a UDC-cum-Storekeeper of All India Radio Station, Pasighat in the evening of April 25 last.
When contacted, Officer-in-Charge Pasighat PS, Atan Taki also confirmed the fact and said that an FIR regarding extortion demand of Rs 5 lakhs was lodged by Jaishi on April 26 at Pasighat PS and the case is under investigation. “Carrying small fire arms and knives, three miscreants came in two bikes without registration numbers, entered the quarters of Jaishi and ransacked his belongings, while one was standing vigil outside the gate. Unable to get the amount, the miscreants looted Rs 12,000 and warned Jaishi of dire consequences if he reported to the police,” added Taki.
Investigating officer of the case, Vicky Lawang said that investigation is on and his team along with the complainant will be heading to Roing on Monday to identify the miscreants.
Meanwhile SP Pasighat, Prashant Gautam who is currently on leave said that they had information about the movements of the same gang in the recent past and East Siang police was on alert to foil such attempts. “While handling any investigation, no stone is left unturned and this spirit has resulted in cracking the Mebo cashier murder case in the past and successful nabbing of the prime accused in Yalik Siram Taloh case from a hideout in Nagaland,” added Gautam who has assured all safety to the public of Pasighat.
He has also said that timely tip-off and alerts from the public will help police in foiling such crimes.
