Daporijo, Aug 29: An army cycling expedition undertaken by a team from Daporijo was flagged off today by the District Election Officer and Officiating DC, Upper Subansiri district, Tage Tatung.
The ceremony was conducted at 6 am amidst chanting of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and loud cheering for the journey by the villagers. Puchi Geko village, the destination is located at an approximate distance of 43 kms from Daporijo and the team interacted with the local residents en route and distributed recruitment rally leaflets and reached there at 2:30 pm where they were welcomed by locals. The team had an informal interactions with them during which the GB of the village told them of their association with the Indian Army during the 1962 Indo-China War and thereafter.
A motivational talk and interactive session was carried out with the school children numbering 60. Sweets were also distributed among the children along with a health checkup camp for villagers of all ages.
