NAHARLAGUN, Oct 10:  The two-day 39th foundation celebrations of the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) concluded on a colourful note at the Dree Ground, Papu Nallah here on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Women & Child Development & Social Justice and Empowerment and Tribal Affairs, Nabam Rebia said that APWWS has come a long way since its inception when it had only few prominent women as its members. “The APWWS has grown and now has its branches at every district working for the rights and development of the state’s womenfolk. The state government is dedicated towards ensuring all possible support to the APWWS,” the Minister said.
Rebia also assured to ensure that the Arunachal Pradesh State Women Commission, which is presently defunct will be revived soon.
While lauding the APWWS for its various welfare efforts concerning women and children, Capital Complex deputy commissioner, Prince Dhawan said that the said Society’s members have extended their support to the district administration on numerous occasions which has helped it ensure better facilities for the womenfolk.
He informed that the APWWS had earlier helped in performing the audit of toilets in various government secondary and higher secondary schools of the Capital Complex which led the administration to repair most of it.    Page 2...
The DC also disclosed that the state government has sanctioned a fund of Rs. 100 lakhs for installing proper light posts at various places based on the APWWS’s requests for the safety of women at Capital Complex.  “We hope to start the said project from January next year,” he added.
Further, the DC appealed to the APWWS to cooperate with the state government in proper implementation of Chief Minister Samara Shiksa Scheme in various schools of the state by conducting regular interactive sessions with the teaching faculty and students.  
APWWS Central Executive Committee (CEC) vice president, Bengia Dipti Tadar and chief advisor, Jarjum Ete in their respective addresses highlighted the various contributions of the Society since its inception in 1979 and recalled the contributions of state’s leaders towards the welfare of the state’s womenfolk. 
Jarjum Ete appealed to the Minister to take up the matter of reservation for women in PRI election with the state government soon.
While urging members of the APWWS to work dedicatedly towards sensitizing people about women’s rights and issues affecting them, Ete appealed to the Minister to also extend support to the womenfolk through the department of Social Justice and Empowerment and Tribal Affairs in the form of regular training and workshops.  
APWWS Central Executive Committee (CEC) general secretary, Kani Nada Maling and spokesperson, Gumri Ringu also spoke on the occasion.
During the two-day celebrations, information regarding marriage registration and free legal services were also imparted to around 255 delegates from various districts who attended the event. About 400 people had also registered for marriage registration at the free legal services stall there.
