ITANAGAR, Jun 15:The state media bodies have expressed shock and condemned the atrocious murder of Rising Kashmir editor-in-chief Shujaat Bukhari by unknown assailants.

The Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ), Arunachal Press Club (APC) and Arunachal Electronic Media Association (AEMA) in a joint press statement issued today has expressed strong resentment over the brutal killing of Shujaat Bukhari, editor-in-chief of Rising Kashmir by unknown assailants on Thursday.

The state media fraternity while terming the killing as nothing but “cowardly act” to silence the media said: “Such condemnable act of killing journalist, which in no way is justified, is equivalent to slaughtering the voice of millions, as media represents people’s voice, irrespective of thoughts.

“We demand immediate arrest of the culprits and also express our deep condolences to the family members of Mr Bukhari. We also pray that peace returns in the valley,” they said.

The senior journalist was shot dead in Press Colony near Lal Chowk in Srinagar by unidentified assailants on Thursday. The journalist was then rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. According to reports, Bukhari’s two personal security officers also got critically injured in the attack.
