ITANAGAR, Jun 19: The 5th Body of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW),
Itanagar visited the district jail, Tezu and the central jail at Jully
in the state capital to take stock of the prevailing conditions. The
official tour was carried out as per the direction of National
Commission for Women (NCW), New Delhi.
A team comprised of Vice Chairperson Padmeswari Jamoh along with APSCW
Legal Advisor Yade Jeram visited the district jail at Tezu on June 15
last and also interacted with the inmates. While interacting with the
Deputy Superintending of Police cum Jail-in-charge Radhe Olley, he
informed that various programs and facilities are availed by the
inmates including legal aid, medical facilities, personal counseling,
co-curriculum activities and spiritual and devotional programmes. The
jail houses both male and female inmates.

The team during their visit to District Jail, Jully today was informed
that the central government is planning to upgrade both the District
Jails into Central Jails with all the required facilities. The team
was also informed that vocational trainings in both the district jails
are under proposal of the government.
Meanwhile, the APSCW has urged the state government to implement
proposed vocational training, library, recreation room and other
proper infrastructure as early as possible for the upliftment and
reformation of the inmates.
