ITANAGAR, Mar 24: Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) has refuted the allegations levelled against it through some social media posts where it has been claimed that the Commission is interfering in the ongoing investigation process of the Arunachal Pradesh State Staff Selection Board (APSSB) scam.
Denying the allegation categorically, APSCW in a press release issued on Tuesday said it has only played its role as a statutory body which is to improve the status of women and enquire into unfair practices affecting them and matters connected therewith.
Clarifying the district jail visit by its members where one of the women accused has been kept, Commission said it has acted on an application received from her mother who sought their intervention with an appeal that her daughter, who is five months pregnant has been kept along with other inmates suffering from Tuberculosis and Hepatitis B and has been not been eating well too.
Hence, the Commission made the visit with prior permission of the concerned authority as per powers conferred on it u/s 15 (d)(i) of the APSCW Act 2002 which allows an inspection by the Member Secretary or any of its duly authorized officers at prisons, police stations, lockups, sub jails, rescue homes or other places of custody where women are kept as prisoners etc, the release said.
While seeking status report of the case from the SP, SIC (Vigilance), the Commission has appreciated the role played by the investigating team in trying to solve the scam and hoped the investigation is conducted in a fair, impartial and expeditious manner so that justice is not denied to the aspiring candidates.
APSCW has further urged all sections of society to refrain from using statements on social media which can malign its reputation, reminding that necessary legal action shall be initiated against such violators as per law. APSCW PR
