ITANAGAR, Nov 15: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has expressed solidarity with the North East Students Organisation (NESO) which will be launching a series of agitations against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.
According to the Citizenship Act of 1955, illegal migrants are prohibited from acquiring Indian citizenship. After BJP-led-NDA came to power in the Centre, the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 has been introduced in the Lok Sabha, which seeks to allow illegal migrants from certain minority communities in Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan eligible for Indian citizenship. The intention of the BJP government for amendment of the bill is totally communally motivated humanitarianism and is BJP’s vote bank politics, APCC said in a press release issued here today.
The APCC statement vehemently condemned the BJP government  and demanded immediate withdrawal of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 and added that it will not allow the region to become a dumping ground for illegal migrants, which would put the identity of indigenous people at stake.
