PASIGHAT, Jan 31: Anti-Leprosy Day was celebrated at Borguli PHC in a befitting manner on January 30 last commemorating Martyrs Day. The day started with Leprosy Awareness Rally where the general healthcare staff, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, Gaon Burahs and many prominent personalities participated in the Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign.
A book published by District Leprosy Society East Siang, Pasighat was also released.
District Leprosy Officer, Pasighat Dr. Tarik Talom elaborated on the aims and objectives of Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign adding that observation of this day provides an opportunity to create mass awareness about Leprosy to educate common people and remove misunderstanding about the disease. He encouraged the public to fight stigma and discrimination against Leprosy.
Gaon Burahs also spoke on Leprosy and appreciated the Health Department for organizing such programme at the door step of people. DIPRO
