Changlang, May 14: In a blow to drug trafficking activities in Changlang, the district’s Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) on Wednesday seized opium weighing approx 3.1 kg from two drug traffickers. 
Acting swiftly on in-house intelligence inputs about the movement of drug traffickers, the ADS led by OC PS Kharsang Inspector KM Das and SI Sunny Wangsu along with local youths under close supervision of SP Mihin Gambo and SDPO Miao Tasi Darang laid a naka on Jinney road near Namchik tea garden. During checking, two suspects who came on motorcycle from the Taipong side was immediately intercepted and after a thorough search, 21 packets of opium packed in a polythene wrapper weighing approx 3.1 kg were recovered from their possession.
When subjected to on-the-spot interrogation, the duo identified themselves as Ongthun Hakhun (27) from Longtom-II village and Nengwang Hakhun (41) from Panchum village under Kharsang Circle and revealed that the contraband was purchased by them from an unknown Myanmar national near Indo-Myanmar border (IMB). A case has been registered at Kharsang PS under NDPS Act and the duo had been arrested for further investigation.
DIGP (TCL) Kime Kaming who has been consistently advocating for eradication of drug menace in the region has appreciated the Changlang ADS for apprehending the drug peddlers and recovering the huge quantity of opium. He also commended the squad’s recent successes in busting a drug racket on the Margherita-Changlang route, arrests of many hardcore UG operatives belong to various outfits such as ULFA-I, NSCN-K, NSCN-KK, NSCN-R, NSCN-U, ENNG and for solving the abduction case of one businessman from Kharsang.
Kaming while directing the district police to continue their war against drugs also emphasised on maintaining close coordination between police and security forces to check all illegal activities. SP Changlang PR
