Ruksin, Feb 7: Ruksin Police achieved a major breakthrough in the ‘alleged Alto hit & run case’ on Wednesday by arresting one Mirajul Ali, a resident of Murkongselek Jonai.
A complaint of hit & run (Ruksin PS Case No. 2/2020 U/S 279/304(A)/337/338 IPC) was lodged at Ruksin PS on January 26 after a motorcycle & scooty were reportedly hit by a blue colour Alto. The owner of the alleged vehicle fled towards Assam after committing the act leaving the riders of the two two-wheelers wounded which subsequently also led to the death of the scooty rider Onga Darang who succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
His pillion rider Oyam Darang who immediately lost consciousness after being hit from behind allegedly by the Alto also sustained grievous injuries. The motorcyclist & his pillion rider also sustained injuries and were referred to Assam for treatment.
After registration of the case, Police immediately swung into action & looked into all angles for identification of the alleged vehicle. CCTVs installed near the place of accident were thoroughly checked but no such vehicle could be seen plying which made us doubtful, said OC Ruksin Abraham Taying. Finally on February 5 the rider of the motorcycle Mirajul Ali after being released from the hospital was rounded up for interrogation at Ruksin PS. The mystery was then solved and Ali finally confessed to have hit the scooty from behind and had concocted the Alto story out of fear to escape public assault, taking advantage of  the absence of any people nearby at the time of incident.

Meanwhile, SP East Siang Rajiv Ranjan Singh who had been closely monitoring the case from the initial stage has lauded the investigating team for having cracked the mystery.
