ITANAGAR, Apr 4: The All Arunachal Contractors’ Welfare Association (AACWA) while welcoming state government’s decision to provide cash relief to the non-governmental/unorganized workers has raised the demand that the same cash relief should also be provided to all those labourers who are working in special government project works.
AACWA has reasoned that this relief should be provided since 1% is deducted from the contractors’ bills as labour cess and also opined that victimization of contractors to mobilise cash relief amounts from the board accounts is not a good practice.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the association has pointed out that labourers are hired from other parts of the state and they return back to their homes after projects’ completion and technically it is not possible to get them registered with boards. Moreover, most of the labourers are from outside the state, the release added. While stating that many contractors and private parties who engaged a large number of labourers are now facing problem in feeding them, AACWA has urged the state government to provide cash relief to all the labourers currently stranded in state due to the 21-day lockdown. It has also appealed the administration to ensure availability of sanitizers and masks at all pharmacies since shortages are being felt.
The association has further appealed the state’s denizens to stay at home during the lockdown for personal and overall state safety. AACWA PR
