ITANAGAR, Sep 7: A one-day ‘Awareness-cum-Demonstration Mela for Agricultural Tools and Equipment’ was organised at the Gumto village, jointly collaborated by UBA and ESA, NERIST on September 6 last.
The main theme of the event was to demonstrate the improved technologies to farmers that would aid in enhancing their income and develop necessary linkages. AICRP on ESA demonstrated the improved hand tools and machineries for paddy cultivation, ladders for harvesting of fruits, remote controlled power tiller, safety gadgets for dao and sickle, improved backpack for load carrying, pea planter, maize sheller etc. NERIST, UBA Regional Coordinator Professor P. Lingfa emphasized the role of UBA and its linkage with farmers. UBA Coordinator and Co-PI of ESA Project Dr. T. Patel highlighted the latest technologies available for improving income of small and marginal farmers and stressed on adoption of best working posture for minimizing Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSDs). Food Technology expert and Assistant Professor, NERIST, Mr. A. K. Choudhary spoke about post-harvest technology management using local resources. Associate Professor of NERIST Dr. A. D. Singh emphasised on the use of electronic instrumentation & control systems for solving problems in agriculture for maximising profit.
The mela was sponsored by Ministry of HRD, GoI and NERIST embossed sickles were distributed to all participants to experience the benefits of improved hand tools and technology. NERIST PR
