ITANAGAR, Apr 3: In view on the repeated case of drowning in Pare River Doimukh area, a meeting with all picnic spot owners was held under the chairmanship of Superintendent of Police Papumpare, Tumme Amo on Monday last. The meeting was attended by atleast 8 picnic spot owners as well as by Police officials and DDMO Yupia.
Addressing the meeting, SP T.Amo briefed that alteast 15 such cases were reported some of that in last couple of years despite various warning signs. Most of those drowned had come from Capital complex for swimming/ bath or for other merry making. Many lives were also saved by swift actions of District Police/NDRF and also sometimes by local people, he added.
SP further opined that the Picnic spot owners should restrict entry of un-authorized persons to their picnic spots and to maintain a proper register of visitors, brief those coming for picnic and merry making about the danger of drowning especially in the afternoon/evening hours when water is released by RanganadiHydro Electric Plant(RHEP) ,deployment of private security personnel expert in swimming ,keep locally available materials like bamboo rafts, inflated tubes/tyres, ropes, torch/search lights for rescuing purpose as first respondents.
SP Amo also urged the members to keep emergency numbers of Police especially the District Control Room (03602284940), SP Yupia (9436896472), DySPYupia (9402278796), OC PS Doimukh (8118940797) and I/C Khola Camp(883769904) to be used during any emergency.
Giving more emphasize on safety of human lives, SP also requested the DDMO Yupia to provide life-saving equipments like life jackets, Rafting/Motor boats, ropes, search lights etc to the district police for use during the coming monsoon and also to erect sufficient number of warning/ cautionary sign boards both along the highway and at the entries of the picnic spots.
Meanwhile, picnic owners also requested the authority to provide atleast 2(Two) life jackets each for picnic spot owners. They also requested the SP to provide regular patrolling to the picnic spot areas from time to time .
