Itanagar, May 22: The State Executive body of National People’s Party Arunachal Pradesh conducted an emergency meeting today under the chairmanship of State President Gicho Kabak here at state party office and expressed their deepest shock and anguish over the brutal massacre of their party’s sitting MLA Tirong Aboh and nine others including his son, PSOs and State General Secretary Wangngoi Hakhun by insurgents, while on their way to Khonsa from Dibrugarh on May 21 last.
In a press release issued today, NPP’s State President Gicho Kabak has strongly condemned the dastardly act and termed it ‘purely political murder by engaging insurgent groups’ as Tirong Aboh’s victory in Khonsa West AC from where he was seeking re-election was beyond doubt. Calling it the first ever incident in the election history of the state where an insurgent group has been engaged to ambush and kill a contesting candidate, the party has appealed both the state and central governments to immediately deploy paramilitary forces and conduct operation against the insurgent groups and trace out the political leaders of Tirap district who are involved with militants for the killing of Tirong Aboh.
Further, the press release has also highlighted how NPP supporters have fallen victims to election violence when Jaley Anna, a supporter of Tirong Aboh was beaten to death by the insurgent groups on March 29 at Khonsa and Bengia Tamang, a GB veteran and supporter of NPP MLA candidate Pani Taram was shot dead on April 26 near Taba polling station in Kurung Kumey district during election campaign. In the given scenario, the state NPP requests the state government to provide sufficient security personnel to protect the lives of the party’s MLA candidates and leaders as they have become prime targets of the militant groups, the release said. The party has also committed to extend full support to the state police and paramilitary forces during investigation and operation activities against the militant groups for tracing out the accused involved in the case.
“The State NPP prays to Almighty God for his eternal peace in heavenly abode and bestow strength to the bereaved family members to bear this irreparable loss and also pray for early recovery of the injured victims,” the press release read. NPP Press Release
