ITANAGAR, Mar 16:The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has welcomed some of the State Government Bills which were passed in the current Budget session of the State Assembly. The AAPSU has appreciated the government who has passed the Criminal Laws (Arunachal Pradesh) Amendment Bill, the Arunachal Pradesh Land Settlement and Records Amendment Bill, 2018 thereby conferring ownership rights to the indigenous people of the tribal people including communities and clan possessing Land Possession Certificates (LPCs) in the State.

The AAPSU also welcomed the money lending (regulation) Bill 2018 to contain unregulated money lending prevalent in the State rendered people vulnerable at the hands of money lenders.

In the wake of crime against women, the AAPSU stated that the Bill to protect the dignity of women is need of the hour. The amendment bill namely Section 376AA and Sec 376D to the IPC provides for punishment for such offences of rape and gang rape of a woman below twelve years by providing death punishment in addition to other punishments, a departure from the central legislation.

The AAPSU also appeal the State government to seek public opinion regarding the drafting of clauses in the Bills for more inclusive and accommodate insightful suggestions.
