ITANAGAR, Jun 15: An All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) delegation led by its Vice President (Administration) Meje Taku and Convener Tatung Taga on Monday called on Education Minister Taba Tedir to discuss matters relating to its earlier demands and suggestions made to the state government in the context of Covid-19 pandemic.
The delegation also met the Education Secretary Niharika Rai and Additional Secretary (Education) R Ngowa. The visiting members strongly stressed for rationalization of admission and other fee structures in all educational institutions including the privately owned so that students are not unnecessarily overburdened. It can be recalled that AAPSU has received a series of complaints that many private institutions are over-charging fees without actually providing the basic facilities. Regarding this, Secretary Education assured that very soon the Education department will issue necessary notifications regarding the fee structures.
Keeping in mind the miseries faced by the student community, the union placed the demand for an immediate release of the Post Matric Scholarships, to which the Minister informed that his department is working towards it and the 2nd installment will be released within a week. As per information received by the union from the Secretary Education, an amount of 46 crore has been earmarked for release.
AAPSU also reiterated their demands for conduct of consultative meetings before reopening of schools and other educational institutions, to which the Minister readily agreed along with proper assessment of the situation & formulation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) taking all the factors into consideration. The union was informed that a draft for the same is already under preparation and the relevant notification would come out soon.
AAPSU once again placed the demands for installation of hand washing/sanitization points in all schools and educational institutions and taking necessary preparations before opening of the schools. AAPSU PR
