NAHARLAGUN, Jul 12: A team of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) accompanied by Naharlagun Police on Sunday evening visited the premises of the Prayer Centre located at 2 Kilo Area here to take stock of the Covid-19 situation.
The visit was undertaken by the union after it received a written complaint from the colony dwellers informing about the detection of a Covid positive case in the said area which has triggered panic.
As per the AAPSU press release, a woman who fasted and stayed at the Prayer Centre for 3 days had tested positive. The delegation led by its Vice-President (Admin.) Cum Chairman, AAPSU Covid-19 Mission Meje Taku while collecting details asked the inhabitants not to leave the area until proper contact tracing and testing are initiated by authorities.
Besides informing the Deputy Commissioner of the development over telephone, the union also appealed for an immediate declaration of the area around the Prayer Centre as “Containment Zone” to halt further mass spread of the virus and initiation of contact tracing at the earliest. AAPSU has further appealed the DA to seal the houses of dwellers detected positive and declare the particular areas as containment zone. The union also informed that their comprehensive review of the current situation suggests strong possibilities of Covid spread from the Prayer/Fasting centres and places of worship in & around the Capital Complex. Keeping in view the worsening Covid-19 situation, the Union has reiterated its demand for closure of all places of worship including prayer/fasting centres in the state with immediate effect and has appealed to the religious leaders and organizations to take the current situation seriously and aid the combat efforts by closing all places of worship.
