ITANAGAR, Nov 20: A massive protest of all the apex students organization of seven Northeast states under the banner of North East Students Organization (NESO) was organized today near Guwahati club against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.
While addressing the gathering AAPSU General Secretary Tobom Dai called upon all the indigenous people of the state to stand up against the illogical and ill conceived Bill that has the potential to annihilate the indigenous people of Northeast. Coming down strongly on the Central Government for repeatedly playing with the sentiments and aspirations of the North East people, Dai cautioned the Centre not to go ahead with the Bill. He also categorically stated that the Bill gives leverage to the Chakmas and Hajongs who will automatically qualify for citizenship under the Bill that clearly spell that minority communities in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan will be given Indian Citizenship.
The stand in protest is the first of a series of agitational program announced by NESO witnessed outpouring and spontaneous support from people of all walks of life.
The gathering was also address by NESO’s Advisor, Dr Samujjal Battacharjee and Secretary General Sinam Prakash Singh.
