ITANAGAR, Jul 2: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) on Thursday submitted a representation to the Education Minister demanding the complete rollback of the decision taken by the State Cabinet of including PRI representatives and two other qualified and responsible members to conduct interviews for the recruitment of teachers under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan(SSA)/Integrated Scheme for School Education (ISSE) in the district selection boards.
“State cabinet’s decision is anti-student, defective and smacks of ulterior motive that defeats the very purpose of improving the educational scenario in the state by providing quality teachers through fair & transparent recruitment processes," the apex students body said.
To express its opposition, the union sent a representation to Education Minister Taba Tedir and its team led by President Hawa Bagang and General Secretary Tobom Dai also called on Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and the Education Minister, pressing for a complete rollback of the decision.
It can be recalled that the State Cabinet meeting on February 18 last had approved the guidelines for Recruitment of contractual PRTs and TGTs under SSA/ISSE as per which formation of a 5-member selection board to be headed by the Deputy Commissioners including a PRI representative and two qualified & respected citizens from the concerned district was finalised with the selection methodology being Qualification (80% Weightage) and Walk-in interview (20% Weightage). AAPSU feels that the revised guidelines will invite undue political interference in the recruitment process, thereby leading to a compromise of the quality of school education in the state.
As per AAPSU's release, all the Deputy Commissioners cum DPO (ISSE) have been instructed to implement the revised guidelines through letters issued on June 22, also containing the clause that the concerned DDSE cum DPO will be held responsible for any deviation of the order. The union while stating that there is no justification for inclusion of a PRI representative and 2 other responsible members, has pointed out that the order also lacks clarification over definition of the term- ‘responsible members’.
Calling for an immediate rollback of the decision, AAPSU has also demanded that instead of including a PRI representative and 2 other responsible members in the respective selection boards, subject experts should be included which would serve the educational interests of the students in a much better way.
Furthermore, the union has placed the demand for review of the marking system as the new guidelines have not differentiated between the students of open schools and those from regular institutions. AAPSU PR
