ITANAGAR, May 26: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) taking note of the reported stigmatization and provocative posts in social media platforms and other forums in the wake of a fresh Covid-19  positive case reported from a returnee has urged people not to panic and refrain from making insensitive comments.
It is the right of every Arunachalee to return back to their homes during such times of distress and to tell them not to come back now will be inhumane on our part. However, we would like to stress that the responsibility of proper testing and adequate quarantine facilities for the returnees lies with the state government and they should duly ensure that, the union said.
We would also remind the erring students and other returnees who have reportedly not been following home isolation measures strictly of their responsibilities towards their people and the state. We urge you all to be responsible and play your part as a responsible citizen. The State Govt should not hesitate in initiation of necessary action against such violators under Epidemics Act, 1897 and Disaster Management Act, 2005, the release read.
The union reiterated  for initiating mass and random testing across the state including  proper segregation in quarantine facilities according to the zones of the returnees.
This is a testing time for all of us and right now the entire state needs to work as one team to overcome the pandemic and its implications, it added.
