RONO HILLS, Nov 19: The 6th University Badminton League-2018 in RGU organised by the Officers’ Club, RGU got underway amidst huge gathering of sports enthusiasts and badminton fans on Sunday evening.
Inaugurating the event, chief guest Er Tadar Tarang, Executive Engineer of Itanagar Municipal Corporation cum Joint Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Smart City Itanagar lauded the club for its effort in promoting the sport and contributed for sponsoring the cash awards for the winners.
The Officers Club of RGU which is a member affiliate of Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) is organising men’s doubles event for both intra-club category and open category.
Speaking on the occasion the founding chairman of the club and Patron of the UBL-2018, Dr. David Pertin exhorted and urged the players to play the game with true sportsmanship spirit. Earlier, Chairman of the Officers’ Club Dr. Gibji Nimasow while giving the welcome address presented a brief note on the championship, while organising committee member Dr. Tadam Ruti led the felicitations. A total of 36 players are participating in the men’s doubles event comprising of faculty members, administrators, research scholars and post graduate students from the age ranging between 21 to 54 years. The finals of the match will be played on November 21. The winners, runners-up and 2nd runners-up will receive cash prizes, trophies and citations, besides bagging sponsorships by the club to participate in ASBA organised tournaments.  
In the intra-club doubles competition the pairs of Dr. David Pertin-Pura Deilyang and Terge Sora-Dr. Tadam Ruti have made it to the finals getting the better of the pairs of Dr. Gibji Nimasow-Hage Kojee and Pitam Jomoh-Dr. Tabang Mibang respectively in the semi-finals. The league matches of the open category amongst the teams divided into 4 pools will be completed by Monday evening.
