ITANAGAR, Nov 1: Five student organizations submitted a joint memorandum to Chief Minister Pema Khandu for his immediate intervention on inclusion  of names of Chakma-Hajong refugees  in the electoral rolls of Arunachal Pradesh. The student bodies have demanded issuance of specific notification against those Chakma-Hajongs whose names have been published in electoral rolls to surrender their Refugee card and occupied refugee lands, failing which they have threatened to boycott the forthcoming general elections.
The five organization are All Papumpare District Students Union (APPDSU), All Changlang District Students Union (ACDSU), All Namsai District Students Union (ANDSU), All Tangsa Students Union and All Tai Khampti  Singpho students Union.
Addressing mediapersons here today, president, APPDSU, Nabam Tado informed that names and numbers of Chakma-Hajong refugees in the electoral rolls have drastically increased. Till 2017 at least 4565 Chakma-Hajong names were  published under 14-Doimukh, 46-Chongkham ,49-Bordumsa-Diyun and 50-Miao Assembly constituencies. The student bodies also expressed their resentment that without any valid documents, concerned EROs and DEOs  had accepted the Form-6 and published the names of the refugees.
“They don’t have rights to enjoy dual benefits and if at all their names are being published in the electoral rolls then they must surrender their Refugee Card and  designated refugee land, same  as in the condition of Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy,”  asserted the students  organizations.
“We the affected district students organizations have to keep on objecting the electoral process but it is the concerned EROs and DEOs who are enrolling the names defying the concerned norms of valid documents,” claimed APPDSU  president while adding that state government  is also not objecting  the enrollment process of Chakma –Hajongs.  ‘Resolution in the state assembly against Chakma-Hajong is a mere eyewash,’ he claimed.
