ITANAGAR, Jan 27: About 48 people sustained minor injuries and few are stated to be in critical condition after a semi metallic hanging bridge turned upside down on Saturday afternoon at Namorah under Dissing Paso circle, Pakke Kessang District.
Police attributed the mishap to overloading. No casualties were reported till filing of this report.
According to police sources, the bridge turned upside down due to overloading of people on the bridge who were mostly picnickers from the neighbouring state of Assam.
An eyewitness told this daily, that people more than two dozen in number of a picnic party reportedly coming from Biswanath Chariali, Assam were taking selfies on the bridge when the mishap occurred.
When contacted, Pakke Kessang, SP Jimmy Chiram informed that about 48 persons sustained minor injuries out of which 10 received grievous injuries.
"The injured have been admitted at Biswanath Charali Civil Hospital and other local nursing homes," the SP added.
It is to be mentioned here that the spot located near the riverside at Namorah is a favourite picnic spot for people living in the nearby areas including Assam.
