RONO HILLS, Feb 3: The 37th Foundation Day celebration of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) got underway with a two-day celebration here at the campus mini auditorium today.
The inaugural day was graced by former Chief Minister and founder figure of the University, Gegong Apang as Chief Guest. The celebration started with inauguration of the newly constructed building of the Department of Physics and followed by various other programmes.
The former Chief Minister who was instrumental in establishing the university here in Rono Hills shared his experiences and recalled the circumstances leading to its establishment, the foundation stone of which was laid in his presence on February 4, 1984. Recalling the obstacles, he faced in RGU’s establishment, he urged the University fraternity to play a vital role in making Arunachal Pradesh a better state and praised the present Vice Chancellor for its all-round development.
Former Vice Chancellor Professor Tamo Mibang shared his acknowledgement for the former CM’s contribution and reminded that under his leadership the University was declared as a Central University.
VC Professor Saket Kushwaha thanked the former CM for his never-tiring attitude in fulfilling the dreams and aspirations. The programme was also attended by local GBs along with university officials, senior faculty members and a host of other dignitaries.
Meanwhile, as a part of the foundation day celebration, Rajiv Gandhi University Students’ Union conducted a ‘Cross Country Race’ in the morning from Gumto to the university campus where there were more than 70 participants under three categories viz., Women's, Men’s and Veteran.
Celebrations will continue till tomorrow and the function on February 4 will be graced by the Governor of the state when there will be delivery of the Foundation Day Lecture and announcement of Vice Chancellor’s Award for Best Employee of 2019-20. RGU PR
